The
Hong Kong Jewish Film Festival is the only one of its kind in
Asia. Founded in 1999, the Festival has so far brought almost
150 features, documentaries and short films from 33 countries
and in 31 different languages to the people of Hong Kong. The
Festival has also played host to directors, producers, film critics
and programmers who have attended to showcase their films and
offer their opinions to audience members. One of the Festival's
unique qualities is that it attracts many non-Jewish people, with
approximately one-third of the audience falling into that demographic.
Unlike almost every other film festival in Hong Kong, we rely
on donations from supporters like you for the majority of our
annual budget. In 2007, ticket sales only accounted for 14 percent
of the total; the rest was made up from donations from individuals
and charitable trusts. Foreign consulates typically subsidise
the screening fees of the film coming from their country or they
may provide logistical or other in-kind support.
In 2006, HKJFF Society Limited became is a licensed charity in
Hong Kong. As such, it is exempt from tax in Hong Kong under section
88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. All contributions are tax-deductible
to the extent provided by law.
