Yes, the Hong Kong Jewish Film Festival is back for a sixth incredible year... and what a great festival this one will be! The theme this year is "The Diversity of Israel" and we've got some amazing Israeli films on tap that feature stories about Ethiopians and French, Indians and Moroccans, kibbutzniks and settlers, Sephardim and Ashkenazim, bus drivers and social workers, and ultra-Orthodox and sceptics.

And that's just the Israeli films! As we do every year, we will be showing some great Jewish-themed films from other countries as well. This year's line up includes films from Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Romania, Spain, the UK and the USA. Features and documentaries, dramas and comedies, and some old and some not-so-old classics - there's something for everyone.

Excited? We are too but it gets better!

A couple of projects are in the works and in the coming months we should know the outcome of both of them. The first one is that the Festival has applied for a grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to put Chinese subtitles on some of the films. This has been a goal of the Festival right from Day One and we are very hopeful to receive at least a portion of the funds requested.

The second piece of good news is that the Festival is in the process of applying for Non-Profit Status from Inland Revenue. When this comes through, all donations to the Festival will be tax-deductible in Hong Kong.

And there's still more!

You asked for it so here it is - repeat showings! Some of the films at this year's festival will be shown twice - once on a Saturday night and again on a Sunday. So if you've got other plans on one of those days (we can't imagine why you would though) or if your helper can't work a few hours on a Sunday, you'll still be able to see the film you want. (By the way, for anyone who needs someone to look after their kids for a few hours on a Sunday, we know some very responsible teenagers who would love the chance to earn a few bucks.)

Here are even more reasons to get excited:

  • The Hong Kong Jewish Film Festival is the only one of its kind in this region.
  • It may be your only chance to see these films on the big screen.
  • It's the largest annual event for the Jewish community in Hong Kong.
  • The Festival is a great showpiece to educate, inform, enlighten and entertain.

So how about supporting this great event?
